The project involved the construction of a 34 storey hotel and residential tower over a two storey basement below dock level. The lower 12 floors house the Marriott International Hotel, whilst 158 luxuary apartments occupy levels 13-32.
We commenced work on site with site clearance, capping beam construction and bulk excavation, ahead of constructing the basement, from which we slipformed the massive curved core and satellite service cores. All of the slabs above ground floor were post tensioned by Structural systems (UK). This was one of the first contracts on which we developed and used edge protection screens, to protect the adjacent DLR and the very narrow pointed edges to the sharp elliptical facades at the corners of the building.
