Often working with customers at an early stage of the project, we are always pleased to provide pre-contract advice to help optimise both the construction programme and budget.

Our team offers a single-point of responsibility for all groundworks and the concrete superstructure - effectively a one-stop-shop without the need for joint ventures or additional contractual arrangements.

Slipform structures

Efficient construction
Slipforming is the fastest method of constructing tall or repetitive structures and thus offers cost savings through reduced construction time when compared with traditional formwork or jumpform systems.

Our modern system can meet the exacting requirements of most complex structures - accommodating openings, tapering profiles, reductions in wall thickness and large embedments.

It is also unusual for the slipform process to be disrupted by adverse weather - client and programme requirements are met in all but the most severe climactic conditions.

Post-tensioned concrete

Economic methodology
The integration of a post-tensioned concrete capability within our business allows us to offer customers this specialist service which can deliver savings in terms of project programme, budget - and the environment.

Over recent years, recognition of the benefits of post-tensioning in the UK has increased - although the technique has been widely used for decades in Australia and the USA. Post-tensioning generally allows thinner floor slabs to be used, thus minimising the height of a building or allowing an additional storey to be constructed. In addition, post-tensioned slabs can reduce the number of columns and foundations required, thereby increasing flexibility for planning the interior of a building.

Post-tensioning allows construction to progress rapidly - fixing time is reduced as it requires less reinforcement and early stressing of the concrete means that formwork can be struck quickly. Slabs are thinner, requiring less concrete and therefore fewer deliveries to site - saving costs and, of course, reducing environmental impact.

Reliable lifting services
With a fleet of over 200 luffing jib and saddle jib tower cranes, expertise in crane hire services and sales is provided within the Group by HTC, whose technical support staff, in close liaison with our site teams, stand ready to resolve logistical challenges.

HTC’s innovative 98% guarantee of service - launched several years ago - is proving a great success with customers. The initiative is an industry 'first' and gives our clients added reassurance that we are offering the best service in the industry - effectively ensuring maximum productivity for their projects, helping them to keep on track.

Our guarantee is further supported by the introduction of 'teleservice' technology which, should a potentially show-stopping problem arise, enables accurate electronic diagnosis of problems before the engineer has even left to fix the machine. In addition, HTC’s safety department has been proactive in developing operator rescue, lone worker recovery and remote monitoring systems to keep us at the forefront of safety and efficiency.

Plant services

Safe & sure support
Continuous investment in both mechanical and non-mechanical plant ensures that P & E Harrington (Plant Hire) Limited is able to offer the highest level of support to the Group in its work.

Our mechanical plant includes a range of dumper trucks, excavators, compressors, telehandlers, scissor lifts, concrete placing booms, a state-of-the-art 42m mobile concrete pump - and even self-climbing concrete pumps.

On the non-mechanical side, an extensive range of edge protection screens, decking panels and falsework, as well as an aluminium formwork and shoring system keeps projects safe and on schedule.
